Union: No sympathy for teachers guilty of sexual misconduct
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
The National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South
Africa is calling for the swift prosecution of educators found guilty of sexual
misconduct.

This after the Education Labour Relations Council revealed that it has fired 39 teachers who were found guilty of such offences.
The council says it investigated more than 1,000 cases across the country between April 2024 and March this year.

KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Thirona Moodley has welcomed the dismissals, saying the union has no sympathy for those found guilty.
" Schools are supposed to be a safe haven for our learners, a place for teaching and learning, and nothing more.
"These educators must be dismissed no matter who they sexually assaulted, when it happened and how it happened.
"We furthermore ask that these educators’ names be added to the sexual offences register, and they never be allowed to be in the classroom again."
