Ramaphosa moves to calm alliance’s GNU concerns
ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa
has moved to allay concerns among alliance members about the formation of the
government of national unity.
Ramaphosa has assured the SACP that the alliance's goals remain intact.
He's responded to the SACP's remarks that while it's taken a decision to not oppose the GNU - it remains critical of the multi-party government.
Ramaphosa was speaking last night in Boksburg, where the ANC wrapped up its three-day NEC Lekgotla.
The president's said the formation of the GNU is meant to defend and improve the interests of the working-class.
"We must now make it a priority to build the alliance as a cohesive and effective agent of change within a common programme of action."
“We will continue to engage with our alliance partners on the GNU, having taken the view that the GNU is the best tactical option and that the ANC is also fully aware about the risks and the potential threats of this moment.”
